Detachment
As someone who is drawn to dark, thought-provoking films about teenage vulnerability and depression, I truly adore how this movie explores all of these themes. It remains one of the most psychologically thought-provoking films I’ve ever seen.
The film highlights the works and ideas of philosophers such as Albert Camus, and his famous quote “And never have I felt so deeply at one and the same time, so detached from myself and so present in the world” resonates deeply with the movie’s tone.
Adrien Brody does an incredible job capturing every emotional layer of his character, truly embodying a non-person, someone who can be seen but is hollow.
Additionally, the portrayal of the American education system, the conflicts of the mind, and the fragile inner world of young people makes this one of the most psychologically intense films I’ve watched.
