Sentimental Value
it's probably been 2 hours since i finished watching the film by now. i still haven't quite wrapped my head around how i feel. the film
quietly and gently meditates on family, the past, why artists make art, and generally on life itself. it's an incredibly multifaceted film that constantly asks new questions about life, yet it doesn't ever lose itself. it manages to at least make sense of, if not answer, every question it asks. the three lead performances are all fantastic and add so much to an already incredible film. elle fanning also has some incredible scenes and moments even if she doesn't have as much screen time. the film's take on art is what really stuck out to me, even if its many familial themes were more central to the story. i think sentimental value may be the best film i've ever seen in a movie theater. i definitely want to watch this a few more times, hopefully in a theater.
