I can’t afford to hate people. I don’t have that kind of time.
Greatest film i have ever seen. I am speechless it was so beautiful. It was a work of art. I’ve never cried so much watching anything ever! This was amazing.
He’s simply passing time without actually living his life. In other words, he’s not really alive.
An incredible story about how you can let your entire life pass by you before you really start living. Watanabe lived more in 6 months than he did in 30 years. The scene where he realises what he can do & theres people singing “Happy Birthday” in the background signifying his rebirth, & now he’s finally living, compared to the corpse like life before him. I also loved the significance of the hat, a lighter coloured hat in contrast of his previous dark one, showing how he now has hope & desire for life.
Akira Kurosawa is a genius. Every single scene was a masterpiece, intentionally framed to really hit you in the gut. The soundtrack was solemn & slow but it really knew how to make you feel. The camera work & blocking again by Akira Kurosawa was perfect, the way he can show so much just by moving around a few characters. I love when directors don’t reward passivity in their movies. I think the beauty in this movie lies on how Kurosawa is able to portray that the meaning of life isn’t in the grandeur but what you can do for others, your kindness & actions.
What would you do if you had only 6 months left to live, like him?
The acting was amazing, more was said in silence & with facial expressions than any amount of words could ever describe. Takashi Shimura is incredible, i’m still getting teary eyed thinking about him in this film! The ending has me awe struck, i didn’t think movies could get this good.
I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that this movie has changed my life.
p.s this is my 200th movie so that’s a great milestone.
