"you think i deserve to die?"
this is probably one of the most accurate representations of bipolar disorder that I have ever watched, it isn't overly romanticised and it shows how mental illness affects the person and the people around them. the whole plot line with his father is the most important thing in the movie--and also with the alice plot line. also the movie ending before showing us what happened. i also appreciated how it made him not want to get better.
i feel like most movies are scared to show how mental illness actually is, but this movie wasn't. this movie genuinely is such an accurate representation of mental illness and how it affects the person suffering and the people around them.
alice is obviously a very key character in this movie, "i can't help you." this line genuinely hurt me so bad, but the fact she was right hurts even more. and when they are talking on the beach and she says "i dont love you" and everything after that is muffled genuinely made me ill. he convinced himself he was full of love just so he could fill the emptiness inside of him. relationships do not heal mental illness, and this was portrayed in this movie.
him and his father having the same mental illness must've destroyed his mother, "I would look at him and I would see. I don't know. not a man. I would just see. pain. that's all that there was. and I can't watch you go through that." the movie relates gabe to his father quite a lot, with his family obviously relating him to his father because of his mental illness, and thinking that he was going to turn out the same way he did, dead.
this movie genuinely destroyed me, this movie has made me see a new perspective of mental illness and how it can be portrayed in media, i used to think there were no good representations of mental illness but some of these movies are truly provig me wrong.
"I'm so full of love."
