"the one thing that never perishes... the only promise... is love."
this film was visually stunning, along with being so creative. the cinematography, animation and every technique intertwined within this film were so perfect, while the sfx and greenscreening were not that good; if anything, it made the film better, more endearing. every frame felt like a camera exploding or something, each frame flowing with creativity.
"any old cat can open a door. only a witch cat can close a door."
each character was crafted to fit perfectly into this bizarre little world, all holding dreamlike characteristics along with fantasy-esque logic which, if anything, only made this film all the more beautiful.
this movie genuinely feels like a fever dream. still, in the best way possible, and while facing child-like themes it also carries heavy topics within it, as well as the lingering trauma of world war ii and the generational trauma of which it carries, nothing was ever presented overly-emotionally nor heavy-handed but instead light-hearted and emotionally subconcious, while being wild and playful, whimsical even, it remains respect and doesn't mock or ridicule the situation.
the style choices were insane, the editing, the cinematography, the haunting-esque feeling carried throughout, everything about this movie is just so impressive, it's hard to even rate this film as any rating is fair; I can see where any perspective is coming from when it comes to this movie. I love how each character's name is an archetype, their archetype, instead of an actual name.
this movie took all the risks which other directors and filmmakers were scared to take and executed it absolutely perfectly, props to creativty.
