Babylon
movies are sad sometimes movies are fucking happy they make you feel something
what a glorious movie.
3 hours long yet the runtime wasn't enough. this is everything. the representation of the desire for fame done so amazingly and the foreshadowing of many events is astounding. the way that characters are free in the beginning and how that changes when they acquire what they dreamed for, the similarity in the way scenes were shot in la la land, the subtlety of emotions experienced by Manuel; it's all so bewildering. also lady fay is so iconic (I shipped her and nellie for like a solid hour of the movie). the irrelevance of jack yet his necessity because he showed the reality of some stars, particularly men and what they go through mentally over the span of their careers is genuinely important. the way the colour was used was alluring and the sex appeal in the most mesmerising way possible. and obviously because this is a Damien chazelle movie, the JAZZ!!
the cast was obviously top tier; Margot Robbie has RANGE like the way she effortlessly embodies each and every role is insane and Diego calva's is so talented in regards to portraying emotions in a realistic manner. also Tobey Maguire's character was so well played, this movie genuinely became unsettling for about twenty minutes when his character came on screen. this is everything, it's ART and frankly chazelle's best idc.
this movie makes cinema seem so appealing while tearing it down at the same time it's difficult to understand what it's trying to achieve but it doesn't even matter it's amazing regardless.
