Collateral
This film is the product of everything I love about cinema. The BAFTA for Best Cinematography is richly deserved: the film grain is balanced, the shots are magical, and the colorimetry is perfect.
The script is original, doesn't seem forced at any point, and goes its own way. I feel as if I've seen the characters evolve before my eyes, as if I've known them all my life. Jamie Foxx is brilliant, and I never expected that kind of performance from Tom Cruise.
But what really stood out for me was the music. The variety of genres, its perfect blend with the situations: you go from bossa nova to blues, then on to rock... etc.
For a film I put on Netflix out of boredom without knowing it was directed by Michael Mann, it was a very pleasant, fun experience
