Submarine
An ode to the pure romance and torment of youth.
I didn’t realize the Richard Ayoade I know from silly British panel shows had this kind of sauce. DAMN this is good. It’s a blessing I never found this movie until I was well out of high school because I fear it would have become my entire identity.
From the opening lines to the closing ones, I saw so much of my teenage self in these characters. This captures the way, as a teen, everything—both good and bad—felt so immense.
I really am enamored with many aspects of this film. Down to the use of red and blue, and the soundtrack by Alex Turner. DAMN! Again, it’s a good thing I didn’t find this in high school.
