Ocean's Eleven
This review is going to be divided into sections but let me start with this: this movie is absolute cinema and will live for the rest of time.
SECTION 1: APEX Mountain (Yes im copying Bill Simmons. Bite me)
1. Las Vegas: Im already ready to ruffle some feathers. There are so many great movies that highlight Vegas in multiple ways from Casino to the Hangover. In my opinion though, this is the version of Vegas that I adore. It has the retro vibe of the old days with the wardrobe that mirrors the style of Casino while at the same time has the grand spectacle and massive appeal that is shown in today's Vegas and especially the Hangover. There's also the belief that corporation don'r run casinos but are instead run by powerful people. I LOVE THAT!
2. Cast: For me, this isn't a hot take but for some it definitely is. Based off the title, you already need to have a strong eleven people to make this extremely complicated plot work. They each need to be distinct in their own personalities and not only that, can potentially carry a scene on their own. You also need a perfect foil that has the opposite of what Danny has but is equally as formidable. Finally you need the perfect person to play Tess to actually make you care about that part of the story. You can assume what I think of how they did based off this list but wow they really did it. What makes a cast truly fantastic is not just the talent in the cast, but the timing of getting these people. All of these people fit perfectly into their roles because they are on the exact level of the character. Nobody feels too big or too small for their part. It's like trying on a perfect jacket where the sleeves don't feel weird or the jacket isn't too tight.
3. Clair De Lune: Might be my favorite scene in movie history it gets me every time.
SECTION 2: RANKINGS
Ranking the members of the crew based on importance and performance to the heist
11. Turk Malloy (Scott Caan): Yes he's hilarious but he's definitely the weaker of the two brothers in the execution of the heist
10. Virgil Malloy (Casey Affleck): I hate that he's this low because yes he's important to the heist but compared to the others he has to be here.
9. Frank Catton (Bernie Mac): Perfect person for his job. You need him in there to be the eyes and ears on the floor in order to gain important information for the heist. Also he gets the car and the aloe vera.
8. Saul Bloom (Carl Reiner): I am Lyman Zerga. You need him to get into the vault and to fake the heart attack. It's just that the others on here you cannot do the heist without.
7. Livingston Dell (Eddie Jemison): The eyes and glue of the place. Without him, you can't do the fake heist or the diverting the 911 call. Massive.
6. Basher (Don Cheadle): The man brings the boom and tells everyone they're in Barney.
5. Reuben Tishkoff (Elliot Gould): I mean the heist would never happen without him. They simply wouldn't have the money or the locations in Las Vegas to prepare and stay for the heist. Consider him Tim Duncan.
4. Linus Caldwell (Matt Damon): He's simply a superstar in this. It's like watching rookie Lebron. Not only does he perfectly track Terry Benedict but also excels at pretending to be a part of the gaming commission. The ultimate chameleon.
3. Rusty Ryan: Effortlessly cool the entire movie. Literally is the Sundance Kid to Danny's Butch. The reason why he is so high up here is how integral he is to the recruitment of the team as well as the conversation with Terry over the phone. Without that phone call they would've been able to stop the whole heist.
2. Danny Ocean (George Clooney): The man literally came up with the plan and when to commit the plan. His squad all the way.
1. Yen (Shaobo Qin): THE GOAT THE MAN THE MYTH THE LEGEND.
