The Handmaiden
Try not unfairly discredit Park Chan-Wook at The Oscars Challenge level: IMPOSSIBLE
I've been so excited to get this watch done, and by God did it not disappoint in the absolute slightest. The fact that a movie as dark, as erotic, as brutal and disgusting as it is can be a true work of art isn't shocking to me because it's held by who is now, by far, all-time favorite director. Every last moment is pure bliss, and the fact that this movie, no, basically every last bit of Park's career has gone unacknowledged by The Academy is horrifying.
"Oh, but La La Land should've won best picture!" "No, Moonlight deserved it's best picture win!" THE HANDMAIDEN CAME OUT AT THE SAME TIME AS BOTH AND WOULD'VE CURB STOMPED THEM WITH EASE! If the Academy fairly nominated The Handmaiden, I have no doubt it would've left without an Oscar for best cinematography at the very least. This is just a straight up masterpiece, watch more foreign films because it's better then most of what Hollywood does now.
