Stopmotion
the average artists artistic process
this is exactly what it feels like to start a project when you don’t already know how it ends. you’re pushing and pulling tweaking it and putting bit of yourself in it along the way because you don’t know what else to do. it consumes you. sleepless nights putting pieces together and getting newer and newer ideas. scrapping old ones that you loved so dearly feels like killing a part of yourself. when people interrupt your process—what artist needs to take breaks, right?— it feels like a personal attack. it breaks the spell, the focus.
i just need to finish this, then i’ll feel whole again. i need to finish this so i can prove to myself and to the world that i am capable then my mind will calm and i can go back to normal. normal until the next project consumes me. until the imposter syndrome comes back and i do it all over again
the sound effects in this one were gnarly. this uncomfortable fleshy sound. the pulling and cracking of skin. wet like clay. and the score, especially in the end credits…. just unbelievably unsettling
not to mention the actual stopmotion bits were perfect, the character designs were as eerie as they needed to be. the ashman wasn’t scary because we’re told he’s her antagonist. she made him scary. her mind conjuring up these ideas and delusions made him scary. made him aooo uncomfortable to look at.
