nothing, except everything.
I first commented this on that half-star review but I thought I’d post it as a separate review.
Some people say that this movie is bad because it shows the pretentiousness of Gen Z filmmaking and their naive outlook on life we have. To argue that people who haven’t lived a long life, with plentiful of experiences shouldn’t be able to show their worldview to people in the form of art is a stupid statement. Anyone from a one month old baby or a toddler to a 95-year old have different outlooks on life (though the babies probably don’t think about it much). That’s what makes art and film so important, it shows different people’s worldview, from different backgrounds and different ages. This time it might have been a somewhat wealthy young adult, and that is fine. You shouldn’t have to meditate for years under a tree and reach the enlightenment of Buddha before you get to make existential films, you should make them now. Even you with your pessimistic view on the world and future generations should make a movie.Young people have different views on things just because they’re young, they haven’t experienced everything, gone everywhere and watched every international film from the 50s. But that doesn’t invalidate their thoughts, it advances them, same for the old people, the middle aged people and you. Your own unique identity, your human experience makes the way you look at life. Now how’s that for some existential thoughts.Roll indie music I totally heard on TikTok.
