Blade Runner
Don't get me wrong, I can understand why many people might like this movie. Ridley Scott, whom I respect a lot, mainly because of "Alien" and "Gladiator", presents us with a futuristic future, on an Earth where humans have destroyed the environment on the altar of technology and "evolution". Usually when I don't like a well-known work, I have enough pin points to justify my opinion, but in the case of Blade Runner (irrelevant but we are talking about the best and coolest title in a movie ever) it is very simple, because my main complaint is the script and specifically the character development. Very cursory introduction of the protagonist, zero background check so that we can get to know him better, generally very little information about him, which made it difficult for me to connect with him. Aside from Deck, the "bad guys" were equally indifferent for the same exact reasons. Starting with a rough and fast introduction, they don't mention anywhere until halfway through the film the reason they are dangerous and the reason they returned to earth and beyond the main villain, their leader, the remaining 3 robots once we saw them once Dec killed them. In general, I think the film did not make me feel attached to any character, as a result of which I am not interested in the manhunt at the end and equally not interested in Roy's speech at the end (a Roy who throughout the film appears as a threatening man who intimidates, kills and always takes what he wants, but in the end tries to convince me that he did all this because he enjoyed his life so much that he could not accept death... I don't like it at all). Not to forget to mention the obvious, in terms of photography and cinematography we are talking about an excellent result. In general, the world building is very well executed, from the first minutes you can feel the rot and the dystopia where these people live on your skin. The world of Blade Runner really captivated me, there are other reasons that ruin my image of this work.
As I said before, I understand those who love it, but in my opinion it’s not that big of a deal, on the verge of overrated. Maybe Ridley Scott just doesn’t suit me, who knows …
P.s. can’t lie to you the line : “like tears in rain” ,hits hard, and would’ve hit even harder if the character was set even better …anyways
