Nightcrawler
Jake Gyllenhaal you sick bastard…you really know how to act don’t you. I just finished watching the movie and I was amazed. I go to start by saying that I started watching the movie without having any idea about the script or the whole idea of it. I saw that there was a small uproar on TikTok and I saw that it had Gyllenhaal in the lead role and I pressed play . I have to start the review with the performance of the protagonist where he perfectly captures the sociopath / kind of a psycho type who, when he finds what he is “good at”, he tops it without any obstacles bothering him literally and morally speaking. How his behavior changes from the moment he understands when he gains “power” either towards his partner or towards Nina is incredible. In general, the character's presence can be described as cold and distant until he realizes that he can manipulate those around him and there we see him acquire a bossy, rude character where he takes advantage of the situation to reveal how much of a freak he really is. Now, script-wise, I loved the whole idea and its execution. It's certainly not one of those movies where I said: too bad that was actually a good idea, they could have done it better. Lou Bloom's journey from an unemployed guy looking for a job to the Lou Bloom we see at the end having his own photo reportage distribution company is incredibly smoothly narrated in the film. Every event throughout the film shows us how smart but also cunning the protagonist is, how perfectionist he is to the point of being paranoid about his work and generally how little he cares about anything or anyone else around him other than getting his job done properly.
A perfect portrayal of a modern sociopath…I'm at a loss for words ,go and watch it.
