Perfect Blue
I can't describe in words the shock I feel from the moment this movie ended. When I pressed play, I knew that anime in general is not my type of movie and I had a slight reservation about how this screening would unfold. Having now seen Mr. Kon's work, I can say that I have been left speechless and pleasantly surprised. The main plot line of the movie is about Mima, a pop idol in Japan who gives up her profession to pursue her dream of becoming an actress. In her attempt, she often becomes the victim of male characters who sexualize her with the excuse that she must escape the image of an innocent pop singer if she wants to succeed in the field of acting. As the above progresses, we see a stalker that our protagonist has acquired, who apparently spreads false information about her, having himself been deceived by a "fake" Mima. I was stunned with the way the movie plays with your head, and let you confused for the biggest part of the movie , wondering if mima is going crazy, illusinating things or if we are talking about a real "fake" Mima... in general the whole execution of this idea was done perfectly. The film's script unfolds like a masterpiece, right up until the plot twist at the end that leaves you stunned. I honestly didn't expect such a job, in terms of direction and cinematography ,because they manage to give a creepy tone to the film and made it a proper psychological mystery thriller.
Perfect Blue was, from what I can understand, a game changer for me, because it won't be the only anime of this kind that I'll watch from now on.
Masterpiece of its own …
