The Witch
Saturday night, raining outside, I'm completely in the mood for an atmospheric horror film by Robert Eggers. The Witch takes place in England in the late 1800s and through the urban legend of the witch, it presents us with the reality of the time and how people interpreted events and problems that presented themselves to them, such as a serious illness for example. In general, Eggers' directorial eye in combination with the color palette he uses in his works like this, give an incredible atmosphere to the film and create the feeling that you are helpless against "evil", alone on a farm in the middle of nowhere at the mercy of the witch. In terms of script, the film did not exaggerate and is one of the only works by Eggers where he does not give you such an allegorical ending. The right pace that doesn't let you get bored and builds tension and fear not through jumpscares or sound effects but through the threatening atmosphere that prevails from the first minutes. In terms of performances, Anna Taylor Joy stands out, where she is in the leading role, as well as Ralph Ineson in the role of the father, where he tries to maintain and protect his family despite the problems they face.
Overall, a really good, atmospheric horror movie from the master of the genre. Anyone who likes this genre is a must watch
P.S. The fact that in the end the witch practically wins by killing the entire family and "taking Tomasin on her side" gives extra points from me
