Twilight
An effective fantasy in a flawed movie.
Edward is the ultimate bad boy. He is:
- Attentive and sensitive
- Caring and kind
- Obsessive and passionate
- Protective and strong
- Unique and intriguing
- Intuitive and intellectual
As cheesy as it is, him being a vampire allows his character to have more "perfect man traits" than any human could have. Even his creepy desire to "eat her" slightly comes across as just a stronger level of desire for her romantically.
But as much as twilight delivers on the fantasy of discovering a mysterious loving man, it also is just a really poorly written plot. Simply describing it out loud is enough to make you realize it does not make sense. It's unheard of to see a modern movie be so poorly thought out. I can't help but laugh but also play along with such obvious logical oversights.
For being a historically "shit movie", the movie is very well produced. Everything is great, and any amount of bad acting I will blame on the bad script. With how much people hate on this movie, I expected this to be overrated garbage, but it's just fairly rated garbage. It's the only popular movie that most people have a valid perspective on. I could understand it being your favorite or if you think its the worst movie of the decade. There is so much to unpack about it.
After 18 years of putting it off, I really enjoyed watching this movie for the first time. I am glad I didn't watch it as a kid. I would've gotten way too into it. I wanted a obsessive mysterious bf so bad haha.
