Rashomon
explored themes like morality, gender and perceived truth in the most perfect way. incredible depiction of gender norms and 1950s patriarchal japan, and how intensely gender inequality and women's lack of agency over their own bodies were ingrained into this culture. the use of a multitude of ambiguous narratives to convey so much about human nature, and the characters themselves is so powerful yet condenses such big ideas into a beautifully crafted 90 minute film. the ending which has a restoration in belief that humans have a capacity for good, works SO well!!! especially when you realise it might be based on a lie itself. so much beautiful symbolism and ideas about post-war japan i could write a hundred million words about this film #newfav
