Babylon
One of the messiest, chaotic, and cathartic pieces of film I’ve seen in years.
Babylon, while incredibly messy at a host of points throughout its runtime, is an epic, disgusting, and emotional piece that serves as a love letter to film. Every frame of this film oozes with appreciation for the art. Despite all this, it serves doubly as a warning against greed and a critique on the movie industry, America during the Jazz Era, and the predatory and relentless titan that we call capitalism.
I would be lying to you if I said you don’t feel the length of 3 hours hit you at multiple points, but goddamn, does that ending make up for everything. Damien Chazelle fails to deliver a five star film to me so far. This man is brilliant.
