Waves
*If you want great visuals, watch this movie. If you want great acting, watch this movie. If you want a great soundtrack, watch this movie. *This movie has it all.
The director knocked it out of the park on this one. Going into this film with no expectations only made the experience better. Right from the jump, I felt invested in the lead characters and the storyline.
This story was something I never would have thought to have seen from a movie of this caliber, despite its simplicity. The themes, as well as the writing in each scene, were perfectly crafted for the audience to indulge in.
Some of the best cinematography you will ever see in a film. From the camera movement to the lighting, every scene is complimented greatly by the brilliant mind and vision from Trey Edward Shults.
I relate heavily with Emily in this film. My family is going through a very hard time with each other and seeing her perspective was very touching to me. It hit me hard when she said, “I just want to be a family again.”
My one and only gripe about Waves though, is the ending. Specifically, the absence of Tyler in the final moments. He made a couple small appearances but never got to hear his voice towards the end. I was totally expecting a, “30 year’s later,” kind of reveal and I was actually looking forward to that.
With all that being said, this is something that all film geeks would love to watch. Waves is a film that every person with a soul should watch at least one time in their lives. Family is everything and this film will certainly teach that theme to you.
