Phantom Thread
Perfectly crafted, wilful in every aspect, this film is a work of art.
After Alma’s monologue, we’re brought into Reynold’s world. The introduction to his character is done perfectly; before he even speaks, we can see the precision with which he does things and why he may be ‘challenging and demanding’
But what really perfected the beginning was the small glimpse into what’s happening inside his house, as that’s what allows us to fully grasp his character since we can see a part of his life
The camera moves slowly and deliberately so as not to disturb any daily ritual, to show the nicety he wants to be surrounded by.
Then the idea of that continues as every movement seems perfectly done, yet with such effortlessness.
PTA always has truly amazing camerawork.
What I loved the most about this movie was how every scene was perfectly crafted and added something, this was truly the best movie that excellent precision was to be paired with, as it brings the truth of the story out in such an incredible way along with the music.
The dynamic between him and Alma is so unpredictable, you really don’t know what happens next, but somehow that seems to be the only thing that fits them perfectly together. At first they both refuse to truly fit in one of their ways.
I liked how Alma ended up pushing him to go past that perfectly crafted image and getting him used to things that he wouldn’t tolerate before, but her ways were kinda crazy. Both of them were toxic, but glad it worked out for them in the end.
