Arrival
This film perfectly captures what modern sci fi should look like. The idea that language can rewire how you think, and even how you experience time, makes this film so fascinating. The idea of aliens not thinking in straight lines like us, but rather in circles, meaning that they see time all at once is such a unique take on this genre. What really elevates this film, is how it uses this concept to tell a deep grounded emotional story about love, loss, and choice. The fact that Louise saw into her future, saw that she'll have a daughter who will ending up dying in the saddest way, but she still choses to live that life, makes this film incredibly emotional.
The only criticism I personally have is that this movie has no color at all, this movie was as grey as interstellar, without going to space. Also if you aren't into slow burn movies this is not a good watch, its very slow but it is worth it.
