The Substance

Margaret Qualley the woman you are, you deserved a best actress in a supporting role nod.  This movie was gorgeous and insane and also made me sad as a woman thinking about how we just discard women and older people in society, but especially women. Youth and beauty is a currency in this society. As women we do things that are harmful for our future self in the long run as desperate attempts to cling to that youth. Every day we subscribe to standards of beauty defined by conference rooms full of men in suits, we grapple with our future self to desperately postpone a perceived loss in our inherent worth. Even after watching Elisabeth and Sue’s disastrous results, there will come a moment when we could all be tempted by the Substance.
