Moonlight
This will forever be one of my favourite movies; i think it just captures the feeling of being queer so accurately. To see Chiron being almost beaten by his queerness is something I think is so prevalent in so many people; whether it be by childhood perpetuating hatred that runs deep into adolescence or through the person in which helped you come to terms with queerness.
Chiron having a difficult relationship with his mum also just adds so much more depth to his character and adds extra layers to his journey of coming to terms with the fact that he is queer. For me, it seems like its an underlying reason he thinks as to why his mum couldn't be there for him as a kid, not necessarily just because of her struggles with addiction.
Being told repeatedly as a child that you are queer and to be completely bashed by it your whole life, only to realise you are what they say you are. This is something i think is so hard and difficult to accept and speaks as to why it is so difficult not just for Chiron but for so many other people within the queer community to come to terms with who they are.
The shame of having to admit that people were right about you, when it is simply just who you are, is something i think affects people so deeply and shapes their outlook on life as a whole and this film has just captured that so well.
sorry i watched the L word and it made me cry and then i watched this.
