Black Swan
Black swan is a classic psychological thriller and horror movie disguised as one of a light and airy nature, being associated with ballet. It is about a girl, Nina Sayers, who struggles to embody her given role of the Swan Queen as she cannot live up to the archetype of the Black Swan. To truly fit the character, she must lose herself as well as the control and balance she’s been working on to perfect the role of the White Swan. Throughout the film, that direction to losing herself messes with her mental state and it’d worsen throughout the film while she begins to hallucinate. Natalie Portman plays Nina perfectly, she must have been the best option because I couldn’t picture any other actress in her place. She leaves this immense effect on you as this film progresses along with her acting that builds tension and stress that will indulge you into Nina’s mind. The whole theme of her fading innocence that metaphorically had shown the transformation she underwent from the pure white swan to her lustful twin, the black swan. By the end of the movie, Nina was fully immersed in the black swan, she became the archetype herself, as she killed the white swan inside of her, she also killed herself. It took being stabbed for her to realize that she reached full perfection in her mind, and she thought she was stabbing her enemy, but in reality, she was her worst enemy, which explains her unaliving. Overall, it was an amazing and plot building film that is definitely worth the watch.
