LIGHT & MAGIC

There are parts of this that are really good, and give lots of information that wasn’t in prior docs like “Empire of Dreams” for example, but then there are also parts (particularly towards the end) where it’s just a corporation patting itself on the back for how amazing it is, even though it’s clearly become a shell of what it was at the beginning of the documentary.  I was practically yelling at the screen when I found out that the “volume” was George’s idea and that he will never get to use something like that to make an actually good movie. I should’ve known it was his idea, it’s basically a reinvention of rear projection which was a bread and butter visual effects technique of the old movies that he loves.  It gets very awkward and passive aggressive between George and Kathleen Kennedy. That alone might convince you to watch it.
