Amélie
every detail about this movie feels so magical. i love the narrator, i love how every character is introduced with something little they enjoy, and i love all the various characters who amelie enchants over the course of the movie. in a way this feels very similar to a studio ghibli film like Whisper of the Heart or my beloved Kiki’s Delivery Service because it values the magic of mundane fantasy.
Amelié as a person unconditionally loves others and this convinced me that there are selfless good deeds. I like how she got the people at the two windmills together just because she thought it would be fun and they’d be able to be happy, and how she messes with the mean grocer, but especially how she wrote the letter for her neighbor, pretending to be her husband. She doesn’t get to see the reactions to these things and she doesn’t get selfish joy from it. She loves unconditionally and with all her heart and that makes this movie magical.
i have a lot to say about this. this is the sort of kind i aspire to be.
