Arrival
Despite knowing the journey and where it leads, I embrace it. And I welcome every moment of itWith breathtaking cinematography, incredible performances and a captivating story, Arrival (2016) is a masterpiece from start to finish. Amy Adams earns the title of a true movie star with her mesmerizing portrayal of Dr. Louise Banks, a linguistic professor appointed with the task of trying to communicate with the Earth's mysterious visitors.
The film approach aliens and first encounters in a very unique way, leaning heavily towards the scientific aspects rather than horror or action. You can tell its not your typical alien encounter movie by the score and color grading from the first 15 minutes.
But perhaps the most fascinating and genius aspect of the film is its rewatchability. There are genuinely little films that are better on the 2nd or 3rd watch compared to the 1st watch especially ones that use the mystery element a lot like Arrival but they pulled it off anyways. Old scenes have new meanings, you look at Amy Adams' performance with a different perspective. For a film that has its whole premise based on the question "Why?", Arrival is ridiculously rewatchable and addicting.
I love this film more than I can articulate by words, it's everything you could ask for in a sci-fi movie. For a movie that has good visuals effects, immaculate plot twists, powerful emotions, Arrival was substantially snubbed at the Oscars and I will never forgive the Academy for what they did. Thank you for reading this long ass review.
