Strange Days
Starting the year strong.
This feels like what a sequel to Do The Right Thing would be. Such palpable anger, and venting of previously repressed emotions. The ideas here are original and well thought out. The characters colourful and intense and human. The aesthetic, cyberpunk yet not cartoonish. This doesn't feel sci-fi yet still feels true to Le Guin's sci-fi as descriptive rather than prescriptive ethos.
Angela Bassett is badass.
Sizemore plays the creep too damn well.
And Ralph Fiennes is a generational actor. For me, truly one of the best to ever do it.
Kathryn Bigelow is a force to be reckoned with and this is a ballsy, ballsy film to have made.
