Never has a war movie been made more tactfully, more profoundly or more honestly. And it's that TTRL is less a war movie and more an epicly scoped exploration of faith, nihilism, altruism, selfishness, love, hate, and all things in between. Every shot, every line, every music note, has a purpose.
Violence is never gratuitous, and all agressions are clearly understood by how profoundly transparent characters are. Every soldier, even the 'enemy', has agency.
