Clueless
“As if!”
Glorified incest but it’s okay because it’s a 90’s rom com, adapted from Jane Austen’s Emma, but set in modern day Beverly Hills about a rich and popular blonde high school girl who plays matchmaker for her new friend Tai. But when Tai becomes more popular than her, she realizes that life is more than just fashion and popularity, and starts to change. But mostly thanks to her ex-stepbrother Josh (Paul Rudd), who had been giving her reality checks this entire time. And, well she falls for him, of course.
I loved the 90’s vibe of this film, I think Amy Heckerling is superb at capturing the nostalgia of that era, the same way she did in her 1981 film Fast Times at Ridgemont High. A great 90’s soundtrack with Radiohead, Beastie Boys, Coolio, Supergrass. And the outfits are incredible. I see why so many people love this film, it’s just the whole stepbrother romance plot is a little weird for me.
Also, how ironic is it that Paul Rudd played in two films in 1995 that had an incest subplot (Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers)??
