Salem's Lot
*Spooktober 2025*
10/14: Tobe Hooper Double Feature**
The first TV miniseries based on a Stephen King novel, Salem’s Lot is interesting to say the least. I think the look of the vampire is scary and iconic, and while I know you can only have so much horror for a TV miniseries, I was dissatisfied with the horror. I’m also not a fan of miniseries’, and it’s not because it’s too long, but it feels bland. The story is boring, and also very confusing to follow at times. It also doesn’t help that it has to cut off for commercial breaks. I think Tommy Lee Wallace did a solid job with this in the It miniseries, but I find it lacking here.
I also wanted to bring this up here, I always laugh at how Stephen King finds the greatest adaptations of his novels terrible, but praises ones that are rather forgettable. I don’t think Salem’s Lot is forgettable, but it’s not as great as King praises it to be. Another reason why opinions of art doesn’t always travel between works of art.
