another film that makes me cry and shit my pants
"Jerome and Vincent were in love!" I yell as they drag me into the asylum
such a gorgeous movie that I have heard been called bland and boring but I loved it so much.
one of the first moment i cried was when jude law told ethan hawke he was proud of him. fucking made me burst into tears i couldn't handle it. after so many years of being treated as inferior, as a mistake, as someone without a future, vincent hears this from the 'valid' drunk man who confesses to him that he tried to commit suicide. vincent probably thought that was crazy, jerome had everything vincent didn't and he wanted to thrown it all away.
Jerome's life is the polar opposite of Vincent's, jerome was 'valid', yet he never was enough. so much was expected from him and so much he could achieve, yet he never reached exactly what he could and what was expected, as depicted by his story about the second place swimming medal. don't even get me started on that medal.
and I flipping knewwwww it was coming when jerome prepared all the materials for Vincent's return. I knew loooong before and I had to take a break.
the amount of acceptance and courage and love for vincent it had to take for jerome when he crawled into that shower cabin was insane. jerome sat there with his second place medal, wishing a good, successful and happy future for vincent, without the burden of his own existence, that kept him from being fully free, constantly weighing down the threat of their secret being discovered.
the last scenes, when the fire burns and vincent is in space, holding a lock of Jerome's hair..... jerome sent a piece of himself to space with vincent, maybe to make him feel less alone, maybe to remind him of him, maybe to let a piece of himself reach the stars, and see Vincent's dreams without holding him back from them.
what I also like is that throughout the movie we don't know if it was Vincent who murdered the boss or not. creates another tone of mystery and fate and ambiguity.
on another note, flipping crazy how noone could tell two white twinks apart, how this is a hyper advanced society yet IDs are blue pictures with 6 pixels, and how the doctor just likes to comment on ethan hawke's penis sometimes.
