The original 26-episode show. This is the starting point for everyone. For many years NGE was pretty hard to find outside of expensive OOP DVDs or piracy but thankfully since 2019 NGE has been globally available to stream in HD on Netflix! On Netflix, it has the original Japanese voice cast as well as an updated 2019 English Dub. It also recently got its first English Blu-Ray release by GKIDS and AllTheAnime which includes the Netflix Version on all 3 versions and the Original English Version on the Collectors and Ultimate editions.

End Of Evangelion is the 1997 theatrical conclusion to the show. End Of Evangelion is an essential watch for fans as it offers a new conclusion to all the characters and dives into a lot of new information, as well as just be considered one of the greatest films ever created. It takes the form of an alternative longer version of Episodes 25 and 26. This means that End Of Evangelion can be seen as a replacement for Eps 25/26 of the show, can co-exist alongside Eps 25/26 or can be ignored depending on what you want. End Of Evangelion is available to stream in HD on Netflix too! It can also be found on OOP DVDs including a UK Boxset that has this and Death+Rebirth and also on the 2015 Japanese Blu-Ray boxset. This was also included on all 3 of the GKIDS and AllTheAnime English Blu-Ray releases.

Death+Rebirth was the first Theatrical Evangelion movie released in 1997 before End Of Evangelion. This film is split up into two forms, Death and Rebirth. Death is a 70-minute recap of the first 24 episodes of the show, mainly focusing on the later episodes. Some of the shots are redrawn or alternative. The Rebirth section is 24+ minutes of new, unfinished animations that would eventually be merged and finished in Episode 25' in End of Evangelion. This isn't a necessary watch but does help the viewer get a quick reminder of the show before jumping into End Of Evangelion. It's an easy and interesting watch for fans who are seriously interested in it, but doesn't offer anything too new to be an absolute must-watch. This exact version is only available on the original DVD and VHS releases by Manga Entertainment outside of Japan, however, it is the easiest and cheapest Evangelion DVD to find and even comes with a fold-out poster!

Evangelion: Death(True)2 is a 70 minute recap movie of that was a re-edit of the recap movie Evangelion: Death(True) and is also the recap seen in the Death section of Death+Rebirth. This re-edit was released as part of Revival of Evangelion which was this 70 minute recap and End Of Evangelion merged into one long movie. Since this is purely a recap (with only a few bits of new footage but most of this is Shinji, Asuka, Rei and Kaworu meeting with each other to perform music at the beginning of each of their sequences like the other versions of the Death recaps) it's not super necessary to watch especially if you plan to watch Death+Rebirth anyway. However, for those interested, it is available to watch in HD on Netflix or as part of the 2015 Japanese Blu-Ray boxset! It was also included on all 3 versions of the GKIDS and AllTheAnime English Blu-Ray box sets.

Revival Of Evangelion is one long movie that merges the 70 minute recap movie Evangelion: Death(True)2 and the complete End Of Evangelion together. It is not necessary for fans who have already seen Evangelion: Death(True)2 and End Of Evangelion separately. The only psychical release for this so far has been the 2015 Japanese Blu-Ray boxset, however both movies can be viewed separately in HD on Netflix!

Evangelion Episode 26' Live-Action Cut is a short film that collects all the live-action footage filmed for the original series and The End of Evangelion. It was only released as a bonus feature on Renewal of Evangelion which was a DVD released in Japan that had the "finalized" version of the original Evangelion series. It's available to download and watch with fan-translated English subtitles on here on Evamonkey.com (a great fan website for all things Evangelion). It can also be seen as part of the bonus content on the Blu-Ray GKIDS and AllTheAnime Blu-Ray releases.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Genesis 0:0' - The Light from the Darkness is a promotional videotape that was released in 1997 for the theatrical release of the film Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death+Rebirth. It was included with pre-order tickets to see the film. It contains an overview of the series' plot, interviews with some cast members, trailers, and a music video for the song Soul's Refrain.

Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone is the first movie in the Rebuild movies. 1.0 (also known as 1.01 for the home video released version or 1.11 for the extended version) is a remake of the first 6 episodes of the original series. This was the first feature-length movie by Hideaki Anno's new animation company Studio Khara that would eventually go on to create the rest of the rebuilds. There is very little new here but is still a nice visual upgrade recap of the first six episodes and still a must-watch to get into the rebuilds. It is available worldwide for free in HD on Amazon Prime Video Worldwide with a new 2021 dubbed version with the same original English cast. It's also available to buy through OOP DVD/Blu-Ray copies including standard versions and special 2-disc versions from Funimation. On July 18th 2022 both 1.11 and 2.22 will be reprinted by Funimation on standard Blu-Ray and DVD.

Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance (also known as 2.02 for the home release version or 2.22 for the extended version) is the second movie in the Rebuild series and is when the rebuilds start to take a new story. While the basic story follows the same storyline and some moments from episodes 8+ of the show, it focuses a lot more on developing the characters and building the world of Evangelion. It is a must-watch for every Evangelion fan.

Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo (also known as 3.03 for the home release version or 3.33 for the extended version) is the third movie in the Rebuild series. It takes place 15 years after 2.0 and this is where the Rebuilds become completely different from anything the story from the original series did. This one is the most divisive among fans with most either loving or hating it, however, it's more forgivable now than it was since 3.0+1.0's release. It is available worldwide for free in HD on Amazon Prime Video Worldwide with a new 2021 dubbed version with the same original English cast. It's always been the easiest Rebuild movie to find outside of Japan as it's the only Rebuild movie that's Blu-Ray and DVD copies remained in print by Funimation.
There is also a re-animation of this film being released in August in Japan called Evangelion 3.333: You Can (Not) Redo which will be a 4K release of the film with new animation on par with 3.0+1.0. There is no news about 3.333 getting a international release so far

Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon A Time (also known as 3.0+1.01 for the updated animation release) is the fourth and final Rebuild movie, and also the last Evangelion project to have Hideaki Anno, the original creator, involved so far. It follows and concludes the story after the events of 3.0. 3.0+1.0 was premiered worldwide on Amazon Prime Video alongside the rest of the Rebuilds. It was released with 10 dubbed language options and 23 subtitled language options. It's been announced that the film will get a Blu-Ray and DVD release on March 8th 2023.
It received a wide Japanese theatrical release during its initial release in March 2021 but has only received limited theatrical releases in other regions with many for the first time in late 2022. Its UK theatrical premiere was part of the Scotland Loves Anime 2022 festival on 23rd October 2022. The United States got a limited theatrical run from GKIDS on December 6th, 8th, and 11th with a one-night IMAX release on November 30th 2022. It has also had a theatrical run in Latin American countries and Canada.

A two-episode NHK documentary documenting Hideaki Anno behind the scenes of the last 4 years of production for Evangelion 3.0+1.0. It was also released with subtitles alongside the Evangelion Rebuilds on Amazon Prime Video.

Until You Come To Me is a short film that was released by Studio Khara released at the Animator Expo 2015. It is a showcase of different shots but follows no coherent plot besides taking place in the immediate aftermath of the events of 3.0, although many moments of it would be re-done and used in the opening of Evangelion 3.0+1.0. It can be watched here on YouTube!

Neon Genesis: Impacts is another short film by Studio Khara that takes place in the universe of the Rebuilds and was released at Animator Expo 2015. It is a 7-minute short showing three Junior High Students and shows how the lives of ordinary people are affected by the Angel Attacks. It is a fine watch for fans but is not canonically connected to any of the Rebuild movies. It can be watched without English Subtitles here on YouTube!

Evangelion: Another Impact (Confidential) is a short film by Studio Khara and was released as part of the Animator Expo 2015. It is a live-action-styled short that showcases realistic CGI and shows Unit-01 fighting in a destroyed apocalyptic city. It can be seen on Youtube but with English Subtitles here on YouTube!

Transformable Shinkansen Robot Shinkalion Movie: The Mythically Fast ALFA-X that Comes from the Future is the first theatrically released film of Shinkansen Hansen Robo Shinkalion which was released in Japanese cinemas in December 2019. Shinkalion is a Japanese toy franchise that debuted back in 2015. In 2018 an anime series based on the toyline aired, and this film takes place a year and a half after the events of the series and features the characters crossing over worlds, including Evangelions. In the movie; Shinji, Asuka, and Rei all have appearances with dialogue performed by their original voice actors. The film also boasts appearances from Hatsune Miku and Godzilla (both of which I also love). Despite releasing almost 3 years ago, there is no news on an official western release of the film and so far, the film has only seen official releases in Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Since this is a Shinkalion movie, it takes place in that world and story and has no connection to Evangelion’s main story despite the appearances of the characters.

(Quick note, prior to this I was not familiar with the Shinkalion franchise at all and have only seen this movie, purely because of Evangelion. I haven’t seen any anime series yet or know much about the franchise in general. However, I do know this is Evangelion’s only appearance in the Shinkalion franchise so far.)
