On one hand I get the criticism that the sci-fi aspect of this film felt half baked and that in many ways it was just the story of any old relationship when it could’ve been elevated to something much more. However, this still gets five stars from me cus what we got was fucking perfect even if it was just a new way of telling a story we’ve all heard and probably even experienced many times... maybe that’s why it’s so perfect anyway and to lose that emotional core in favour of pushing the boat out into deeper, more avant-grade waters would risk losing some of what makes this film work on a visceral level in favour of chin stroking esoterica.
