I can totally see why this has held up after so many years as one of the greats. I can only imagine what it must have been like to see this in 1942 at the time of release when nobody really knew how the war would go.

This is legitimately some of the best fight choreography I have ever seen.

Im going to start this off by saying I am hugely biased as I am a long time Evil Dead fan. I first saw The Evil Dead (1981) when I was 15 and I was HOOKED. Naturally I was both excited and worried for this movie. Not because I was worried it wouldn’t be good but because of how much hope I had in it. You never want to be disappointed and boy I wasn’t. The premise for this movie is relatively simple and that’s good. They don’t need to have a convoluted story for a movie like this, sometimes all you need is family trauma. This family does not fall short in trauma stock. Evil dead movies are naturally pretty gory and they usually try to up the gross factor with each instalment. Once again, they did not disappoint. This was by far the most brutal Evil Dead movie. If you’re squeamish, this movie will test your limits. As far as the cast for this movie, everyone did a phenomenal job. Whether they were running for their life in terror or being a gore-hound sadistic deadite, they did an incredibly convincing job. I also would like to point out how fantastic the cinematography was for this movie. It is genuinely some of the best camera work I have seen in a while. There are some scenes in that movie that absolutely took me by surprise and left me scratching my head wondering how they pulled that off while watching in awe. I know that sounds like hyperbole but it isn’t. Not everyone is going to see the magic in the camera work but I certainly did. Finally, to anyone who has already seen the movie and is an evil dead fan, that second after credit scene was pure perfection. We all know why. Wonderful movie and I’m rating it 5 stars. I don’t even care. This could potentially push Evil Dead (2013) out of my top 4 and as my favourite Evil Dead movie but I need to give it time and watch it a few more times as to make sure this isn’t just recency bias (I don’t care if it is). Go see the movie.
