Star Wars
For over a thousand generations, the Jedi knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the old Republic... before the dark times... before the empire.
For years I disliked Star Wars and the idea of a nerdy, complicated and ridiculously long sci-fi series. But for whatever reason, late 2025 was a specifically open minded experience for me. I tried new things, played new games, and even started another famous movie series that I irrationally disliked, the lord of the rings. The fellowship of the rings left me wanting more, and not wanting to get into the rest of the trilogy yet, I looked for a new epic saga to satiate my craving for new worlds to explore, and Star Wars was sitting right there on my watchlist, added with the intent of never really getting around to watching it.
When I finally decided to watch Star Wars, I put off watching it until it was the right time, and when the right time came, it just about changed my view on cinema and world building.
While I was watching Star Wars: A new hope, I was surprised by the amount of things I had no idea were from the series, this included characters, scenes and music. The music stood out to me especially, it was catchy, and I’ve heard these songs just about everywhere. The soundtrack was and still is extremely iconic. Aside from the familiar things I noticed, I also recognized that this movie had revolutionary practical effects, with minimal CGI used, Star Wars has still managed to win my heart over and allowed me to say that this movie has some of my favourite visual scenes of all time. Luke and Ben walking into a space bar filled with unique aliens has taken the spot of my favourite scene and atmosphere, and I’m sure many others share my opinion in the visual category of the movie.
The fights are also entertaining and far surpass the blobs of useless slow motion action scenes which take place in most modern movies, and the characters within the fights are also so interesting to the point where they keep you fully entranced.
While I could have focused this review mainly on the fantastic story, pacing, world building and characters, I decided to go with how special it is to me and how the experience of watching it for the first time feels.
This is my personal love letter to this movie, and the rest of the trilogy which I will most definitely be watching.
Aren’t you a little short for a stormtrooper?
