Manhunter
So I was sort of waiting to rewatch this film until I could show it to my friends, but honestly, with how much I have been thinking about this film lately, I couldn't wait.
There is just so much to talk about when it comes to Manhunter. The soundtrack is amazing, and every frame in this film feels perfectly lit and composed. You could pause the film at any moment, and that frame would stand as a great photo by itself. I could go on praising the technical aspects of this film forever, but it's also important to discuss just how good a script this film has. What I find most interesting about this film is how it portrays masculinity. Graham is so different from your typical 80s action hero. He is an introspective, vulnerable, and emotionally complex character. I think the perfect example for this is the scene when he is in the super market with his son(also happens to be my favorite scene in the movie) explaining why he had to go and see a psychiatrist after catching Lecter. I think Graham might be one of my favorite film protagonists.
The film is just so good, so much to write about! I think I even unintentionally stole a lot from this film when making the current short film I'm working on. Im also certain that this film is going to be a big influence on my future work as well.
