The Witch
“yes i am that very witch”oh god oh god i’m so late to the game with this i can’t believe i’ve shielded myself from this film for so long! and to think hereditary was my favorite horror movie.... welp. god i i love a slow burn horror film like this. i’m so tired of being a pussy and not watching horror—- like i’m living for this shit (now it only makes me wanna see the lighthouse even more now). i’m sure every comment i can make has already been made but the complexity of this film is so rich, and laced with social commentary and explorations of our dark histories. The vvitch broods, it doesn’t aim to frighten but rather enlighten. It’s chilling it’s cold it’s dark and yet at the end you feel a sense of warmness satisfaction very much like the bonfire the witches hold their sabbath at at the end. My mind is still processing it all there’s so much to say about this film. y’all really hyped up hereditary when THIS already came out years prior goddamnit i thought i had done good to watch hereditary and been good with the horror genre for good. this is my intro into the artistry that can be exhibited only in a way horror allows. I’m so glad with recent years horror as been able to be respected more—- it’s true it’s the most commercial genre but when you flip it on it’s head and try to truly make a statement of art with it you can be soooo successful. It really is inspiring.
