The Beast
What do you really fear? Ask yourself frankly.
the intuition of the huge loss that I cannot imagine and my resistance to this estrangement // even in love and happiness, you fear the future loss
I’ve only ever been able to describe a similar feeling I’ve had throughout my life as “premature grief and loss” and it’s the process of learning how to cope with that and maneuvering through it that I find too harsh and difficult. but through that, and through Gabrielle and Louis in this movie there’s such a prominent air of love and curiosity I am reminded of despite all the pain and fear or strange anticipation of loss or finality. The balance of that fear of loss/finality vs fear of love is something that will sit with me for a while. (Side note: “What is stronger? Your fear? or your love for me?” made a weepy little mess out of me) What a beautiful movie that I can feel is going to become a favorite and what a treat it is to see Léa and George together like this, they feel unrelenting in their performances and I need more and more and more and more of them together.
let me just add that there’s a very specific little moment where Louis holds a special gaze at Gabrielle and I audibly gasped and said “oh my god” because I respect and understand that longing and yearning. okay that’s all
