Get Out
Put the pen down Mr Krupp or we will hypnotize you. Get out is a genuine fucking miracle and possibly the best directorial debut I’ve ever seen. The writing and direction are locked the fuck in the whole atmosphere is so fucking uneasy like there isn’t a straight line in the house it all feels wrong. The subtle racism at the beginning and the constant uncomfortable situations Chris finds himself in just make for a really weird atmosphere that when its cards are revealed it makes for an incredibly satisfying twist. The hypnotism scene is one of my favorites in any movie, it’s tense, incredibly well acted, well edited and just top notch. It’s fucking scary bro like the pure terror in Chrises eyes is just like oh. Daniel kaluuya absolutely kills it here he portrays such a range of emotions in such a powerful way like the ending and hypnotism alone make for an Oscar winning performance. Lil rel howley is also very enjoyable as rod and honestly is a big part of why I really enjoyed this one so much. Rod I think as a character is really cool like he’s the comedic relief sure but he’s not a fucking dumbass who splits off and dies first. He’s the goddamn tsa who handles shit. But seriously I did really enjoy his comedy it brought a lot of light to the situation and is like basically what everyone is saying during every horror movie. He feels almost Tarantino like the way he’s just like “yes fucking finally”. Honestly speaking of Tarantino I think the third act drags like the tiniest amount. I wanted a Tarantino like complete bloodbath at the end but we only got like a little. I mean the deer and wrestling thing was cool but I just wanted more goddamnit. The score I think is something that is underated imo it’s genuinely great here. It’s very like classic yknow like almost twilight zone the way it builds tension. It uses like traditional classic film score and combines it with modern blues and shit it’s pretty cool. This one feels like riding the first climb of a roller coaster while sick.
