Steins;Gate

Call me crazy, but it’s not as good as people say it is. Don’t get me wrong it was a good watch but it’s insanely overrated. People act as if the show is an intellectual masterpiece, when in reality it’s not as smart as it thinks it is. It’s heavily overhyped because it relies so much on the illusion of complexity. It’s also a slow burner, which isn’t a problem on its own, but it takes a long time to actually hook you in. At the beginning, I was cringing at almost every interaction between the mostly one-dimensional cast, though I eventually grew to kinda like them. The second half of the show is genuinely pretty good, especially the last four episodes. I thought the ending was beautiful and ultimately made the whole experience worth it but like I said, it’s extremely overrated. One day I’ll probably give the visual novel and the chronological watch order a chance, and maybe that will change my opinion. But for now, it’s a 7/10.
