I'm not a horror head, the furthest thing from it, but if I had to choose a favourite horror film, this is it.
I went into this expecting the worse, and ig I found out I can tolerate more gore compared to what I thought. But it made it much easier having my expectations about the body horror so high, it didn't seem too absurd to me. I found the story engaging, psychologically dark and interesting, and I find the choice of having the first half build up to the complete switch up into this disturbing, psychological horror with the motivation stemming from loneliness, which ig you can say is the overarching theme. I love how the film is shot all the way through, but especially at the beginning and the lighting in the 3rd closing part is really good.
Yoshikawa literally knew from the minute Asami walked through that door that there was something deeply wrong and Aoyama still didn't trust his boy, literally has more red flags than the PRC and kept increasing throughout. My boy needs to learn when to step away. I think we could all tell that Asami was creepy as hell.
Overall, this film exceeded my expectations, especially for a horror film and definitely worth a watch if your into this kinda stuff. If not, but you can tolerate something like Saw, you should watch it.
