Amélie
"any normal girl would call the number, meet him, return the album and see if her dream is viable. it's called a reality check. the last thing Amelie wants."
the film glows with colour and warmth almost all the time. even the sad moments in Amelie’s life, like her lonely childhood, are shown through a lens that makes them look strangely happy. in paris, Audrey Tautou feels like she belongs completely. she has one of those faces that always seems to be smiling, like she has just played a quiet little trick and is waiting for you to notice. it is a perfect fit for her character, and it feels completely natural.
Audrey’s importance to the film cannot be overstated. i will admit i almost fell in love with Amelie myself, forgetting she was only a character on the screen. but she does not carry the story alone. the cast feels like a perfect whole, each actor bringing their role to life. even the characters we see only briefly feel just as alive as Amelie herself, and together they create a world you almost wish you could step into.
if ever there was a film to make you smile, grin and beam from ear to ear with such great style, as a delightful Amelie, it shows immense tenacity, helping those who need a break with joy and glee. in my opinion, this is one of the most enjoyable films you will ever have the pleasure of savouring.
