Moving
moving isn’t free from sentiment or melodrama, but it never lays it on too thick. one of my favourite moments is that fantasy water festival scene, which is genuinely so beautiful and yet almost heartbreaking. even in 480p the scenery feels dreamlike, and Renko’s expressions are amazing. the film pulls you right into her perspective and into the little pockets of her imagination.
the way it handles divorce and its impact on a child feels so natural and spontaneous, almost like we’re watching her inner world shift in real time. everything is filtered through her eyes and translated into this gentle, charming visual language that never feels cheap or insincere.
the simplicity of the storytelling is honestly what makes it work. it unfolds slowly and invites you into its mood instead of pushing a strict plot. for me, moving succeeds more as a mood piece than as a traditional narrative. i’m definitely rewatching soon, hopefully in better quality.
