Nosferatu
Robert Eggers’ complete obsession with historical accuracy and folk lore is what makes his movies so fun to watch. As a fan of his for years at this point, I’ve watched hours of him explaining his movies and research to the point now where every time I see something on screen I trust it’s there for a specific reason. Every set and costume is absolutely perfect, and the lighting is beautiful. The way moonlight looks in this is seriously so perfect as seen in the horse drawn carriage scene. And Willem Dafoe gets to have an awesome little monologue while playing with fire. ALSO! Making a folk lore accurate vampire is genius and was so so needed for horror, a lot of these monsters have been watered down from their original counterparts, vampires being the most egregious of them since vampires today have become just hot pale humans. I hope other people see this and compare it to something like the wolfman that completely fell flat on its monster movie adaptation and go with a more faithful approach to adapting characters.
