Coherence
**Slight spoiler warning? (If you could even spoil such a film to begin with)..
**
Notes, and my thought process going into this film, with no background whatsoever:
• They, partly, at least, harbor ill feelings toward Laurie. Understandably so, given the context of their relationship with her. (irrelevant)
• Unless Hugo is in on it, his brother did warn/ask him to call should anything weird happen. So that branches out the possibility that he’s either a suspect or that something really strange is happening involving the comet. (irrelevant)
• Minute 30: I don’t see why we should exclude Amir from the suspects list. He is the only one whose picture was taken that night, and he’s known them long enough to be able to get ahold of their photos. But that also implies someone else must be working with him to actually take the photo. Then again, they would see that happening, so we rule this out. (irrelevant)
• Mike would also be a reasonable accomplice in that case, because he started to exhibit behaviors he would only know after hearing Em’s story… why though? Or, once again, maybe the comet and its effects are real. (irrelevant)
• Minute 33: wtf, are those doppelgängers? yep, abandon all forms of normal reasoning.
• Minute 44: oh, right, druggy drug. I guess we’re bringing reasoning back into the equation? (irrelevant)
• Minute 46: nvm. (irrelevant)
• Minute 48?: Since when did Kevin have a scarf??
• Minute 58: I knew it, at least one of them is not the original. (relevant, well finally)
• 1:06: Phones ???
Final thoughts: what?
Well, that certainly was a trip. It plays on the idea of Schrödinger’s cat while hiding, at first, behind the façade of what I thought was a normal sci-fi/murder mystery.
Such a fun concept to explore, and almost impossible to predict because the film geniusly gaslights and manipulates you by framing or feeding you certain information that you build upon, only to be surprised that it doesn’t necessarily matter as much as you thought it would.
