i can not overstate how amazing this film is. how i kept my last review to a shit oneliner is beyond me but im making up for it this time🙏🙏 i couldn't name a flaw with this film to save the world. the soundtrack is awe inspiring, its genuinely beautiful and sounds so so much better when its not on a shitty caravan tele. i wholeheartedly believe the entire soundtrack is perfect but of the standouts for me are "I Lied to You" (obviously), "Rocky Road to Dublin" and "Pale, Pale Moon". im ngl i think 3 of my 8 cries during this film were in each of these and im not ashamed in the slightest. the first half is does such an outstanding at not only making you love each of the characters but making you have as much fun as they are in the juke joint, you really feel what they feel. but all that just makes it all the more heartbreaking when you remember youre actually watching a horror and are forced to watch as almost every character youve just fell in love with is slaughtered💔 but even in the midst of the second half it still manages to be so funny, Delroy Lindo's delivery of "i think i just shit myself" is on point and i think a solid 75% of the audience laughed despite everything else that was going on, and it was fucking rammed😭😭 every single one of the actors played their roles faultlessly, from the ones everyone rightfully praises like Miles Caton, Michael B Jordan and Jack O'Connel to the "lesser" characters played by Omar Miller, Wunmi Mosaku and Jayme Lawson. Miles Caton is a generational talent, i cannot wait to see him in more films because he absolutely kills it as preacher boy. i genuinely dont think he slipped up anywhere, from singing, to emotional beats, to comedy, he does it all. Michael Jordan as Smoke and Stack, its a performance for the ages. both characters feel wholly unique to the point at times i forgot they were both played by the same person, im running out of synonyms for perfect but its honestly such an impressive performance especially from someone whos main career wasnt acting. i could say way more about this film honestly but im at my station so im taking it as a sign to finish this😛 this was so worth the hassle it took to get to the cinema. i wish i could give it higher than i did last time, but in spirit this is a 6/5💔
