Ginger Snaps
Thoroughly enjoyed “Ginger Snaps” as it reminds me much of “Jennifer’s Body”.
The heavy themes of girlhood, sexuality, identity, and finding yourself told visually through body horror and the metaphor of it all through lycanthropy are (in my personal opinion) incredibly creative and genius in a way.
Bridget staying by her sisters side as she tries to understand this growth and transformation Ginger is going through is quite beautiful in a way and very tragic considering how the movie ends.
We also must understand how these themes are also demonized in this film. Menstruation and a women’s sexuality are widely frowned upon in society and I think this movie perfectly shows how that negatively impacts young girls. Ginger is seen as “gross” and “slutty” when she’s just going through changes that every woman goes through.
In conclusion I love coming of age/girlhood horror movies
