Superman
I’ve never really been a big Superman fan. That’s probably partly due to the fact that Superman media over the last few decades hasn’t been a great representation of the character. He’s been represented as this perfect being who can do no wrong. Nobody likes perfect, it’s boring. I hoped and expected that this film would change my view and make me a true fan of the character. Boy was I right.
I could genuinely talk about this movie for hours, there is so much to love about it. The pacing is great, there’s never really a slow moment. For a two hour movie, it flew by and I wish it had been longer. The action sequences were incredible and felt as if they were ripped straight from a comic itself. Seeing Green Lantern constructs used creatively on the big screen healed something inside of me. It does a great job of balancing a pretty large cast of unique characters and yet Superman is still always in the spotlight. It never bit off more than it could chew.
The performances from the actors were incredible and every single role felt perfectly casted. David IS Superman. He embodies the character like we’ve never seen. As strong as he is, he’s not afraid to be vulnerable and THAT’S what the character is all about. Hoult as Lex was absolutely phenomenal, by far the best depiction of Lex Luthor we’ve ever seen. Gathegi and Fillion were massive standouts as well. (Here’s to hoping Mr. Terrific gets that TV show.🤞🏼)
Whoever said Gunn isn’t good with meaningful family scenes needs to reevaluate themselves because, although we don’t get a deep look into their personal relationships, the scene between Clark and Pa Kent was one of the best, most beautiful scenes I’ve seen in a comic book movie period. All in all, this movie makes you FEEL something and for that alone it deserves all the praise in the world. This is THE Superman movie and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
